We seek to offer a safe haven to those needing refuge and a place to heal from the storms of life#1 The experience I had staying with the Frys was invaluable. For me, it was my first exposure to unmerited godly love. In 2010, I was nine credits short of graduating from Howard University when I ran out of money for housing and moved back to New Jersey. The Frys asked how my semester was going and I told them I didn't have housing. Their natural reaction was to invite me into their home. For five months, I lived with them and completed my undergraduate work. They adopted me as their own child, talking with me through emotional difficulties with my family and helping me through issues with my character and personal development. They connected me with my church, Christian small groups, and taught me job skills -- like learning American Sign Language -- that would later employ me after graduation. In addition, I had the unique opportunity to see what a day-to-day healthy God-centered marriage looked like. By the time I graduated, we had grown so close that I referred to them as my godparents -- the parents God sent me when I needed them. I love you both immensely and I am grateful for how God is using you to bless others in transition,. Keep up the good work! PS. I don't want to scare people and say I OWE THEM MY LIFE, but yes...
I was beat down and fleeing an abusive relationship when the Frys "made" me come live with them. I stayed with them for about 3 months where I got myself together and finished my degree. I will always cherish that "step out of time" where I could regain my strength, self-confidence, and joy in my salvation. By the time I left the Frys, I had been restored enough in God that I could re-connect with my husband in a healthy way. -- Lynn
